Synthetic lawn manufacturing has come a long way since its introduction in the 1960s. Actually, it’s come a long way since even the early 2000s. With advances in manufacturing tech and materials used, modern synthetic lawn is softer, more durable, and feels far more like the real thing. While the first few attempts at synthetic lawn were made from material similar to that you’d find in your carpet, nowadays realistic synthetic lawn like the Layback Lawn range is made from polyethylene, polypropylene, and nylon. Generally, it’s a mix of high tech plastic with additives such as colouring dyes and UV stabilisers. Once mixed through in a hopper, the coloured mixture is added to a steel mixer, thickened, and taken through an extruder head, creating individual synthetic fibres.
